Cleaning the Kids' Rooms!

Hey Moms!  Whether you have boys or girls...
we've got to teach our children to keep their rooms clean.  Here's a few tips to help out!

I'm not saying it's easy...but it is necessary for us to show our children the benefits of an orderly room.  (My boys were told that I was taking a picture for this blog, so they had incentive to clean their rooms today.)  Whatever it takes, it is our responsibility as parents, to train our children to organize.  A neat room/home will help to alleviate stress in any family.

Christian's Room

The boys' rooms have been a scary sight on more than one occasion, but I have noticed the more regularly they clean their rooms (at least weekly), the more they like it and strive to keep it that way.
If we all stay on top of the chores (like a once-over at night before bed) each week the chores will get easier and more manageable.

I have inexpensive shelves in the boys' rooms for them to showcase their latest "hobby" pieces.  They enjoy displaying their work for friends & family.

Fun and inexpensive lamps can add so much character to a room.  Lamps will make your home feel warm and inviting.  I have a lamp in EVERY room of the house (including bathrooms and don't laugh...the laundry room).

Keep the kids' rooms smelling fresh.  As you know, a candle in the their room would not be a good option, however, plug-in scented diffusers work very well.  Several studies have revealed that pleasing scents can positively affect the moods of our family members.  Don't forget the kids' rooms!

Tips for MAJOR cleanup in kids' rooms:
(Recommended every 3-6 months)

1.  I always allow the boys to turn on their favorite music and BLARE it through the house.  We end up cleaning and dancing...it takes the monotony out of the chores!
2.  Make sure you rearrange a couple of items in the room. (i.e. move the bed to another wall, hang new pics or posters, rearrange hobby pieces on the shelf)  It will make the room feel new and the change is healthy for all of us.
3.  Set a timer for 1 hour.  If you don't complete the task, let the kids know that "Time Is Up!" and come back to it next week.
4.  Give the kids a heads up that, "Next Thursday we will be organizing your rooms so you will have more space to play".  Purchase any organizing items you may need and be prepared to hit it hard on Thursday.  : )
Happy cleaning with the kids!

FINDING THE FLOOR:
Friday Chore:  Today we focus on the bathrooms!
1.  Make that toilet sparkle
2.  Tub & Shower Doors - bye bye soap scum!
3.  Mop floor
4.  Windex fixtures & mirrors
5.  Organize & wipe down drawers.  Makeup Drawers-if you have too much makeup-get rid of 1 item per week.  Ummmm...I think I may be preaching to myself!

I use desk drawer organizers to keep my makeup in order.  Also good to have one in the infamous "junk drawer" in the kitchen : )

Always keep yummy smelling soap next to your sink for washing your hands.  Again...scents are important!

Don't forget a "manly" scent for your hubby or boy's bathroom.  Pine scents or musky scents are recommended.

My bathroom in the Master Bedroom...lotsa sink to clean : )

FINDING FAVOR:

Proverbs 31:27  "She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."

Stay alert!  We must pray and watch over our homes. What are the kids watching, googling, playing?  Let's keep them busy learning certain responsibilities...like cleaning their rooms.
